Rupert Brooke CD - Buy it now!
From the CD: Listen to 'Love' read by Jonathan Tafler
A CD of Brooke's poetry, read by actors and poets including Andrew Motion, Ian McMillan, Ian Duhig, Michael Symmons Roberts, Matthew Hollis, James Wilby and Geoffrey Streatfeild is now available from Useful Donkey. £1 from every copy sold will be donated to the Armed Forces Memorial Appeal.
The CD is full of Brooke's greatest poems and they have been read by some of the UK's most exciting poets and actors. The profits from the sale of the CD will go straight back into production costs for the Rupert Brooke tour, so it's a great way to support the company, but by buying the CD you will also help raise money for The Armed Forces Memorial Appeal.
The Armed Forces Memorial is the first national memorial dedicated to the men and women of the United Kingdom Armed Forces (Regular and Reserve) killed on duty or as a result of terrorist action since the Second World War. The start date is 1 January 1948, which follows on directly from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission which commemorates those who died up to 31 December 1947. The one exception is for those killed in Palestine who are included on the Memorial.
It is widely accepted that there is insufficient recognition of the men and women of our Armed Forces who have given their lives in the service of their country since the end of the Second World War.
Following a period of extensive consultation with the Services and ex-Services community it was concluded that a new national memorial should be constructed - to be known as the Armed Forces Memorial.
The Armed Forces Memorial is not a traditional 'war memorial' that only remembers those killed in conflict. It also recognises the many servicemen and women who have given their lives while on duty and those killed by terrorist action. The Memorial will also help to raise awareness of the invaluable contribution made by the Armed Forces throughout the world.
The Memorial is located at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire where there are already a number of Service-related memorials.
The Armed Forces Memorial Appeal needs to raise sufficient funds to provide an endowment fund for the permanent maintenance of a truly fitting memorial of national importance.
